What is the Boone County Ohio River Initiative all about?
Mark Jacobs from the Boone County Conservation District and Bridget Striker from the Boone County Public Library sit down to talk about our Ohio River resources.
Celebrating Boone County's 43 miles of River Front
The Boone County Ohio River Initiative is a group of partners from Boone County, led by BCCDKY and The Boone Conservancy, hoping to improve access to the river itself and highlight the county’s natural and cultural assets while preserving them for future generations. Our goal is to develop a conservation and recreation plan that recognizes the importance of land conservation while also identifying best strategies for river access sites and potential land and water outdoor recreation opportunities.
BCORI has recently been chosen as one of fourteen communities across the country to receive technical assistance from the National Park Service through the Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance program. This National Park Service will help us identify and implement projects to help us reach our goals.
Stay tuned for updates, maps, events, and resources as we develop this initiative!
BCORI was inspired by a regional nonprofit known as the Ohio River Way. Check out their digital guide to recreation on the Ohio River here.
